INT’L DAY OF SOLIDARITY W/ THE SHMINISTIM — SAN FRANCISCO
January 9, 2009 is the International Day of Solidarity with the Shministim—Israeli youth refusing to serve in the IDF. Or Ben-David, 19, is sentenced to her third term in a military prison for refusing enlistment. Meanwhile, Jamal Juma, Coordinator for the grassroots Stop the Wall Campaign, is being held without charges as the Israeli military continues its repression of Palestinian activists in the West Bank. San Franciscans, organized by the Dialogues Against Militarism project, spent several hours passing out information to passers-by about the Shministim and Palestinian political prisoners as well as urging people to write letters of support.
SF IVAW SHUTS DOWN MARKET ST. — MARCH 19, 2009
March 19, 2009 was the 6th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. To mark this day San Francisco’s chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War decided to draw attention to the day by attempting to shut down Market St. in the city’s financial district for 71 minutes—or one second for every US soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
